First Time Printer Setup

  • 123HP Setup Black Ink Cartridge, an HP 123 Setup Tri-Color Ink Cartridge, a software CD, a setup poster and a power cord.
  • hp.com/dj2549 All-in-one Printer designed to fit anywhere you want it to. Unpack the power cable that included in the accessories, and plug it into the port on the rear of the printer and then plug the other end of the cord into a wall outlet.
  • Turn ON the printer by pressing the power button.
  • To install the ink cartridges, open the ink cartridge access door.
  • The right cartridge slot allotted to the black ink cartridge and the left slot allotted to the tri-color ink cartridge.
  • Insert cartridges into the respective slots, click them into place and then close the cartridge access door.
  • Place the alignment page on the scanner, close the scanner lid and then press either the Start Copy Color button on the printer control panel to align the cartridges.

Step By Step Procedure to Replace Ink Cartridges

Turn on the printer by pressing the power button and open the ink cartridge access door. To remove the cartridge, press down on it until it is released from its slot. Remove the packing material on the cartridges. Make sure you do not touch the copper-colored contacts or nozzles while removing the protective strip of plastic. For, touching them can result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. The right cartridge slot has been allotted to the black ink cartridge and the left slot has been allotted to the tri-color ink cartridge. In OS X:

With your printer turned on, search the Mac for Print and select Print & Scan Click the name of your printer, and select Open Print Queue. Click Open Printer Utility and select Clean Printheads. If the print quality of the test page is acceptable click Ok. Else, click Second-level Clean.

Printer is Offline(Mac)

  • Turn OFF the printer and disconnect the USB and connect it back.
  • If the connection has been established via a network Unplug the power cord from the router.
  • Reconnect the printer and, Restart your printer.
  • On your Mac, click on the apple icon and go to system preferences.
  • On Printers and Scanners / Print and fax /Print and scan check to see if the name of your printer is displayed under the printer’s list.
  • Reconnect it after a while and turn ON the printer.
  • Try printing again to see if the connection has been restored.
  • Disconnect all the 123.hp.com printers connected to your Mac except the one you are trying to Connect.
  • Search the Mac for Print and select Print & Fax / Print & Scan /Printers & Scanners.
  • Create a new printing session Delete your printer from the printers list and then add it back. Click Print.
  • Reset the printing system Enter the administrator username and password when prompted to confirm your choice.
  • Add your 123.hp.com/dj 2549 printer back to the list and try printing.
  • If your printer connected to a guest or host network, reconnect to your own network.
  • Connect your printer to another Mac and try printing see if the issue still occurs.
  • If your wireless router supports multicasting, enable it and retry printing.
  • Disable the IPv6 setting Advanced Network Settings on your printer.

Printer is Offline(Windows)

  • Turn OFF the printer and disconnect the USB, connect it back.
  • If the connection has been established via network, Unplug the power cord from the router.
  • Re-establish a connection to the internet service provider. Restart your printer.
  • On your Window, Go to system preferences. On Printers and Scanners / Print and fax /Print and scan check to see if the name of your printer displayed under the printer’s list.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet. Connect it after a while and turn ON the printer.
  • Reset the firmware, try printing again to see if the connection has been restored.
  • Disconnect all the printers connected to your Mac except for the one you are trying to print from Search the Mac for Print and select Print & Fax / Print & Scan /Printers & Scanners.
  • Disconnect the other printers and try printing using your printer as the default printer. Create a new printing session Delete your printer from the printers list and then add it back. Click Print.
  • If in the Use list your printer doesn’t show up, download the latest drivers and when your printer queue appears in the list try printing again.
  • Reset the printing system Select Reset Printing System by right-clicking in the printers list. Enter the administrator username and password, when prompted to confirm your choice. Note: Resetting the printing system deletes all the devices in the print queue.
  • Add your printer back to the list and try printing.
  • If your printer connected to a guest or host network and then reconnect to your own network.
  • Connect your printer to another window computer and try printing to see if the issue still occurs.
  • Disable the IPv6 setting on the advanced Network Settings on your printer.

Resolving Printing Scanning And Printer Issues Using HP Print & Scan Doctor(Windows)

  • Confirm that your printer is connected, turned on and listed in the start menu.
  • If not listed, open HP Print and Scan Doctor and click My product not listed. Select your printer, click Retry and then Click Select your connection type, follow the instructions on the screen and then click Retry.
  • Select either Fix Printing or Fix Scanning. Note: A white checkmark indicates that the printer passed the tests.
  • A white wrench indicates that Print and Scan Doctor found an issue and repaired it. A yellow exclamation mark indicates that the test failed and that user action was required but the step skipped.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue if a red X displayed. The HP Print and Scan Doctor can also used to test the status of the printer spooler, print queue, device manager, device conflicts, driver check, Windows (WIA) Scan, HP Twain Scan, and HP Scan.

Print Jobs Stuck in Print Queue(Mac)

  • Resolve any problems with the hardware like a paper jam or a carriage jam and try printing again.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and computer, connect it back after 10 seconds.
  • Confirm that you didn’t plug into the Ethernet port before you try to print.
  • Disconnect  USB or Ethernet cables before you turn off the router and the printer.
  • Turn it ON again and try printing. In the Apple menu, go to System Preferences and click Printers and Scanners.
  • Remove any extra multiple printer queues that might exist for your printer, leaving only one that matches your printer and try print again.
  • In the Printers list, delete the existing print queue for your printer. Click Add, and then select the name of your printer.
  • Try printing again after a new printer queue display in the Printers list in an idle status.
  • Confirm that the printer is receiving power and that the power button is lit. If the printer isn’t receiving power, connect it to another wall outlet.
  • If the power button isn’t lit, turn off the printer. Disconnect the power cord, and after a minute, reconnect it back firmly to the printer.
  • Press the power button to turn it on if the printer doesn’t turn on by itself and then try printing again.
  • Select Reset Printing System by right-clicking in the printers list.

Print Jobs Stuck in Print Queue(Windows)

  • Delete files created in Windows, whenever a print job is sent to the printer.
  • Search for MSC from the Start menu, select Printer Spooler from the services lists, click Restart the service or click the restart button and then try printing again. Confirm that the printer is receiving power and that the power button is lit.
  • If the printer isn’t receiving power, connect it to another outlet. If the power button isn’t lit, turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord, and after a minute, reconnect it back firmly to the printer.
  • Press the power button to turn it on if the printer doesn’t turn on by itself and then try printing again Disconnect the USB cable from the printer and computer and reconnect it after 10 seconds.
  • Confirm that you didn’t accidentally plug into the Ethernet port before you try to print again.
  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor. In the print queue window, uncheck both Pause Printing and Use Printer before you try printing again.
  • Go to Devices and Printers on the Control Panel, right on your printer,  Set as Default Printer and try printing again.
  • Uninstall the printer driver and software from your computer.
  • Install the latest version software from the HP website
  •  Right click on your printer in Devices and Printers click Remove Device.
  • Detect any issues in the system files of the Windows Spooler service by running the System File Checker.
